BLOC Grand Central

Rights of Light BLOC Grand Central

We provided Rights of Light advice for the landmark 23-storey BLOC Grand Central hotel in the heart of Birmingham.

The constrained site for this development required careful consideration. The high-tech design and fit-out of this slender 23 storey hotel development will help realise the City Council’s vision of making the district around New Street Station a vibrant and attractive destination for visitors.

The building is situated at an important gateway site adjacent to New Street Station, John Lewis and the Grand Central shopping centre. In response to the site's surroundings, a double height entrance lobby and retail provision at ground level will help encourage activity and bring animation to Hill Street.

The area is at the centre of the Big City Plan – a 20-year project to create thousands of jobs and bring £2billion-a-year into Birmingham’s economy.

The plans involve demolition of a largely vacant six-storey 1960s office block. Planning consent was granted unanimously in September 2016
