Anstey Horne

3D Model of Birmingham

Rights of Light Birmingham 3D model

Back in March I posted a sneak preview of Anstey Horne’s new 3D model of Birmingham and the interest it generated was very surprising.

I am pleased to say that we have now completed our fully interactive and dimensionally accurate 3D model of Birmingham city centre. The model captures the whole area within the inner ring road in high detail.

The 3D model is now fully live and we are able to use it to work with clients, architects and planners to model massing, assess context and visual impact, check protected views and give indicative daylight impacts in real time.

Our model is accurate to 10cm and we regularly update it from laser surveys to achieve even greater accuracy. We are able to use the model to rapidly assess the impact of new developments.

Today's screenshot from the 3D model shows Colmore Business District and our Birmingham office highlighted in purple. We aim to keep the model up to date by adding consented and pending planning approvals. If you have such a scheme that you would like us to add to the model or want to discuss a scheme that you would like us to look at please get in touch.

We also taken this one step further by adding consented and proposed developments within the city.

Birmingham 3D City Model Applications

Using the latest specialist software and 3D laser scan data, we create 3D models and undertake cutting edge analysis for Rights of light and Daylight & Sunlight.

We deliver solutions to affected schemes, maximizing the development potential of sites and providing certainty to enable development to progress.

Assessing the Rights of Light and Daylight & Sunlight available to a proposed building is key to delivering high quality developments in increasingly dense urban areas throughout the UK. See our recent article on why this matters to affected neighbouring properties.
