The Majestic

Rights of Light Majestic Leeds

We provided Rights of Light and Daylight & Sunlight advice for the conversion of the Majestic in Leeds, an iconic building in the heart of the city centre

This former 1920’s cinema provides the wow-factor to rail users visiting the city and is soon to be the new home to Channel 4.

The Majestic opened as a 2,400-seat super cinema in 1922. It was badly damaged by a fire in 2014 leaving a redundant shell and fragments of the Beaux-Arts style interior.

The proposed design drawn up by DLA Architects preserves and enhances the existing external fabric whilst inserting a new 66,000 sq.ft. exemplary Grade A workspace within, across seven floors.

Like the original design the building has a number of hidden gems for its occupants to discover. This includes the grand Palm Court to the rear of the building. This is a five storey, circular atrium topped with a glazed dome. Palm Court was designed as a re-interpretation of the historic access arrangement of the original cinema.
