NEC Supervisor STEAM Academy, Bridgend
We are delighted to have been appointed as NEC Supervisor for the construction of the new STEAM Academy for Bridgend College.
The Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) Academy is a new sixth form education facility at Bridgend College’s Pencoed campus.
The new building will include workshops for vehicle maintenance, welding, M&E, Pneumatics and CNC machining. It will also provide laboratories, classrooms, staff areas, a hall, café and break out social learning spaces.
Plans for the 8,500 sqm building were drawn up by Rio Architects. The new building brings new facilities to the College and allows for the relocation of the Engineering department from its Bridgend campus to Pencoed. The new building is planned to cater for 1,000 students when fully operational.
The establishment of the new Academy will enable the College to enhance its STEAM offering in collaboration with industry, creating real work environments and directly supporting key STEAM initiatives prioritised by the Welsh Government.
The STEAM Academy’s location, adjacent to the Digital Creative Cluster located in Pencoed Technology Park, will develop closer working relationships between the College and large-scale and SME companies, improving the commercial engagement, growth and income of the College to the direct benefit of the students.
The completed Academy opened at the Pencoed Campus in September 2021. We were thrilled to learn that it has been shortlisted for the Construction Excellence in Wales (CEW) 2022 Building Project of the Year Award.
NEC Supervisor Role Bridgend
Our role as NEC Supervisor is to ensure that the highest quality of workmanship is maintained. We will attend site to test and inspect the quality of work, and ensure any defects are identified and rectified prior to completion of works.
